The Germanic Doctor, 1994
One of Hodway’s first text based pieces, installed on a wall of the Pittville gallery in Cheltenham, U.K. It was influenced by Amikam Toren’s narrative paintings that he had seen in a gallery earlier that year. This piece was also a practical exploration of how influential size, placement, and spacing are on eliciting specific interactions from participants in the work. The text is autobiographical, and recounts an early childhood experience after an accident in the Arabian desert.
