The Flirt (เจ้าชู้), 2020

The text is Thai and translates as ‘Flirt’. In the Western tradition of symbolism the golden flower is recognisable as a gilded lily, but it also has its own distinct connotations in South East Asia. Inspired by urban weathering as a metaphor for our own waxing and waning states of desire, this piece also references the relentless cycles of matter and energy that govern us all. The work incorporates many recycled and recovered materials, which echo this transformative evolution of form, purpose and motivation.
